Mr Siphesihle Phenyane, who is in the final year of Economics and Management undergraduate studies at Rhodes University (RU), knows all about battling to get around Grahamstown, now known as Makhanda.
The small student town – although strictly speaking is a city because it has a cathedral – has a land area of just over 65㎡ and getting around it without a car is not easy. There is no reliable transport system. Metered taxis are expensive, and minibus taxis run only at certain times and in certain areas. Phenyane, and his varsity friends, mostly walk. And so the idea of G-Bike was born.
